I found my way to yoga in the fast pace of Washington DC when I moved there after college to work for a large construction company, being raised in Vermont I was craving the space to connect with my body and silence to let my mind relax. Yoga is the only time that I am able to truly let my thoughts disappear and just exist on this earth, it may sound cliche, but in my life, this rest for my brain and connection to my body is something I crave and need to be the person I want to be. My nature is competitive and yoga has allowed me let go of that part of myself and listen to what my body is telling me both physically and mentally, it has brought me healing and stability throughout the rush of life.

What do you do for a living?

I work as an engineer and project manager for a commercial construction company, PC Construction. After going to school for civil engineering and working in the construction industry overseas it was the clear choice for me, my job allows me to challenge myself and be a part of a process that contributes to the community that I live in. I work on the construction site daily for whatever project I am managing, my days start in the early morning and end when the last worker leaves the site. I love the variety in construction, not only is everyday different but I have the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life who truly embrace their trade and are always willing to share their experiences.

Are you able to incorporate your yoga practice into your career or into your daily life off the mat?

Although incorporating my practice into my work life is difficult, I find that I try to bring as much of my practice as possible to my daily activities by finding meditation in the small parts of life and sharing the values and benefits of yoga with others.

What brings you the most joy in your life?

I love to be outside, I am happy in the the sun, whether it is in the garden, on the beach, in the ocean, on a snowy mountain, or running on a road through the beauty of New England.

What is the best thing about the Lila yoga community?

When I moved to Maine over a year ago, one of the first things I starting searching for was a new studio I could call my own. I tried out a couple other studios in the area and I wasn’t finding the solace and challenge that I needed, after my first class at Lila I knew that I was home, ever since it has grown to be a place that is familiar, caring, challenging, and shares similar values and beliefs as I do in my everyday life.
